Cancer Awareness Month raises an incredible €15,000

An incredible €15,000 has been donated to the cancer charity AECC after a fantastic fundraising effort by CLC World staff on the Costa del Sol for Cancer Awareness Month in October.

To mark the official handover of the funds to the Asociación Española Contra el Cancer, representatives from Marbella, Málaga and Mijas/Fuengirola/Benalmádena were invited to Solvillas for a presentation in front of staff on Friday 9th November.

The announcement that around €12,000 had been raised by employees, with the rest coming from Fundación CLC World, was met with cheers and loud applause as Group Finance Director Juan José Millan revealed the final total, describing it as an incredible effort.

“I am proud to be part of this great team,” he said. “From the Fundación and the Board of Directors, we want to say thank you very much to all of you.”

The fundraising involved hundreds of different events, some of which were captured on a video, specially put together for the occasion by Creative Services.

CLC World Chairman Roy Peires and senior management were present to hear praise for everyone who got involved from the invited guests, Laura Moreno Marín from the Ayuntamiento de Mijas and Pedro González from the AECC in Málaga.

Sra. Marín said seeing everyone dressed in pink as a gesture of support for the AECC had touched her deeply.

“I want to thank each and every one of the workforce of CLC World for the commitment they show, not only in this campaign but all the campaigns they volunteer for.”

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the AECC, provincial manager Snr González said: “Thank you friends and CLC World workers for helping us to improve people’s lives.”

The money raised will mainly go towards two “star projects”, one of which is a day centre in Marbella.

Part of this treatment centre will be converted into an outer space-themed area for children since they are taking part in their own radiotherapy or chemotherapy “mission”, he said.

Reflecting on the success of the month-long fundraising initiative, CLC World’s Human Resources Director Juan Miguel Marcos (Curro) said: “These events are very important for everyone in the company to see us supporting different causes.

“People often see something like this and think ‘oh, the company can sort it out’ but I want to get across the message that everyone can be involved.

“I think this is the start of something even bigger and we will get even more people participating in events like this.”
