Over €1,000 has been raised for Fundación CLC World thanks to the efforts of a mother and daughter who decided to tackle one of the biggest sporting events in the North East of England.
Teenager Jaea Oliver took part in the junior version of the Great North Run on Saturday 8th September.
It’s a 4km event around the streets of Newcastle and takes place the day before the senior version of the race, now one of the biggest half-marathons in Europe.
Mum Gemma had been hoping to tackle the 13.1 mile event but was forced to pull out at the last minute because of illness.
Gemma said was determined to run in the Peterborough City half-marathon in Cambridgeshire which was due to have taken place in October.
The pair decided to raise funds for Fundación CLC World because of their family connections to the company. Jaea’s grandfather, Geoffrey Beever, joined us back in 1986.
A total of £430 (€480) was raised thanks to family, friends and online donations while a further £465 (€520) was generously donated through the moneyboxes dotted around California Beach Resort and Marina del Sol.
José Luis Mella, Resort Operations Director for CLC World, was full of praise for their efforts.
“First of all, I want to thank Jaea for her marvellous run on our behalf,” he said.
“Running any distance to help others takes a lot of grit and determination. I also want to thank Gemma and let them know that what they’ve managed to do for us is wonderful.”
